The addition of a new generation of top quality ITO coated glass slides, developed specifically with research/development laboratories in mind, to their range was recently announced by Diamond Coatings. Here is a brief run-down on what this new generation of ITO glass slides is all about and what available options are.

New Generation ITO Glass Slides

Consisting of soda lime glass (1.1 mm thickness), our new research & development ITO glass slides feature a silicon oxide (SiO2) barrier coating (25 nm thickness) and a coating of high quality 1.6 x 10?6 ohm.m resistivity indium tin oxide.

Soda Lime Glass

The comparatively inexpensive processing cost of soda lime glass makes it the most popular, commonly used type of glass. It is produced by drawing the glass over molten tin baths. The air side (side facing up) is typically flatter and smoother than the lower side facing the molten tin. Available in standard, thermally or chemically options, soda lime glass can be cut to a variety of sizes.

ITO Glass Slides, the Si02 Barrier

Placed between the soda lime glass and the indium tin oxide coating, the Si02 barrier coating was introduced to our new glass slides to inhibit sodium (Na) ion diffusion between the ITO coating and the glass. The reason for the introduction of this barrier was the fact that the diffusion process, a result of annealing, can cause structural defects and/or increased electrical resistivity on the slides’ ITO layer if no such barrier is present. The silicon oxide barrier is essentially present to increase both the quality and the longevity of our ITO glass slides.

Available ITO Glass Slide Grades

The new Diamond Coatings range of ITO glass slides is available in three grades:

  • 5 ohms/sq standard ITO coating; transmittance: 82%
  • 15 ohm/sq standard ITO coating; transmittance: 88%
  • 15ohm/sq OLED grade ITO coating; transmittance: 86%

The surface of the OLED grade option is smoother than that of the two standard options.

Standard ITO Glass Slide Sizes

Stocked standard sizes for our ITO glass slides include:

  • 20 mm by 10 mm
  • 25 mm by 25 mm
  • 75 mm by 25 mm

Diamond Coatings can also provide varying other sizes. The maximum size available is 400 mm by 500 mm.
